Welcome to Ground School

Below is our agenda for ground school. It is designed to give you a productive and interactive understanding of all subjects required. To register or for more information about classes please send email Base Borden Soaring Group or call and leave a message at (705) 424-1200 ex 1537 (we do respond to all our messages)

We hold ground school classes throughout the year on inclement weather days. But our formal course runs from Feburary til April. Its FREE with Membership!!

COURSE AGENDA

Ground school will commence on the first Saturday of the month of February until April. classes run from 0900 hrs am to 1200 noon every Saturday. The following is list of subjects for instruction of the classes.

Introduction to Gliding - history of gliding and gliding in Canada.

Introduction to Aerodynamics - Basics of aircraft desgin

Glider performance - An understanding of how gliders fly.

Weather - Basics on weather - now you will know what the weatherman is gabbing about.

Aeronautic Instrumentation - all about instruments and how the work.

Rules & Regulations - who has the right of way?

Navigation - Map reading, now you will know how to get there.

Medical Facts - Your health and flying, what will affect you.

Weight & Balance - Did you pack to much on board?

Radio Operators course - Learn and achieve your radio operators licence "restricted for aircraft".

Club operation - ground handling, flight line operation, operating on an aerodrome/airport.

PLEASE NOTE:

It is necessary to have 15 hrs of class instruction for pilot licensing, but if you have to miss a class not to worry. We hold classes through out the year and you can make up missed classes/topics easily.

In event of days of inclement weather we will hold further ground school classes on subjects listed above and on other related subjects as required. Also subject quiz's and practice exams will be held on all required subject material.
